Opendatahacklab is a joint initiative of Hackspace Catania, #opendatasicilia and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Univeristy of Catania (see the collaboration and research agreement). with the aim of helping people to produce open data and reuse existing ones. The products of the laboratory are essentially software applications and libraries, which can be freely reused, to create and publish open data or to access existing datasets. Laboratory meetings take place around one time per month.

The laboratory operates under the following rules:

  1. an exhaustive documentation have to be provided about all the activities;
  2. source code of every software produced during the activities is released under a open license;
  3. data eventually produced during activities are made available as open data via SPARQL endpoints and, where possible, as downloadable RDF files.
